• In the world of increasing use of technology and convenience, many students have developed sedentary lifestyle at home and school, as a result it is causing a major threat to physical, cognitive health and academic performance. Health and educational professionals believe that physically active students perform better in the classroom.Literature Shows that better Physical activity could improve academic performance as well and it suggests that there should be a strategy for coordinated development between physical activity and academic performance of the children. Physical activity has also been linked to higher levels of self-esteem and lower levels of anxiety, which are proven to be associated with higher academic performance in the classroom. Many studies have been known to establish association between the physical fitness and academic performance and believes that physical activity is associated with increased academic achievement in students. Physical fitness was also found to increase the cognitive and memory functions as well which in turn are influencers of academic performance. There are literature suggesting the comparison between physical fitness levels of urban and rural students. (9,10) But there is fewer literature which establishes a correlation between the physical fitness and academic achievement.Hence there is a need to find the correlation between the physical fitness level and academic performance in adolescent students. RESEARCH QUESTION: What is the Correlation between Physical fitness level and Academic performance of Urban Belagavi adolescent Students AIM:To establish the correlation between the physical fitness and academic performance of adolescent students of Urban Belagavi. PROCEDURE • After obtaining Ethical clearance from the Institutional Ethics Committee, the Secondary and higher secondary institutions in urban Belagavi will be listed.The Heads of the Institutes will be approached for permission to recruit the students in study after explaining the procedure. The parents of the students to be recruited will be approached through Institute head. Students will be screened for Inclusion and Exclusion Criteria.Informed consent from the parents and the Students fulfilling the criteria will be obtained and recruited. Presidential physical fitness test will be administered, and the scores will be recorded. Test included in Presidential challenge fitness test are 1 minute curl ups test, 1 minute push up test, sit and reach test, 1 mile run/walk test and shuttle run test. For the test to be administered we need a empty space to perform the test and 1 mile walkway space to perform 1 mile run/walk test.Recent GPA Scores will be collected through the respective Institutes. Data thus obtained will be subjected to Statistical Analysis. |
