Brief Summary
One of the most extensively researched behavioral disorders in children and adolescents worldwide is ADHD. It is a severe disorder that can lead to serious issues for both individuals who suffer from it and those who provide care. As teachers frequently interact with students in a range of scheduled and unstructured scenarios, teachers in primary schools are vital in the evaluation of students’ academic and behavioral issues. However, dealing with children who also have ADHD in the same class causes teachers to feel more strained, overworked, and inclined to use ineffective management interventions. Thus, it is believed that schools provide a special environment for early detection and efficient treatment of ADHD. As Teachers plays a crucial role in diagnosing mental health issues, referring children to medical professionals, maintaining a positive attitude, and promoting mental wellness among students in their schools, they need efficient knowledge about ADHD. Educational program on ADHD will enable them to recognize children with the disorder, cultivate a positive attitude towards them for better management and treatment, and ultimately help these students perform better in the classroom. The purpose of this study is to prepare and educate the teachers on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). This will enhance symptom identification, and timely interventions for children with ADHD in School environment. Furthermore, it will also help the teachers to educate the family or parents on ADHD. At first, from DDPI formal administrative approval is obtained to carry out the study in English medium primary schools of Udupi Taluk. Then selection of the schools was done by simple random sampling and samples selection will be done by purposive sampling method. After school selection, administrative permission from the respective schools were taken. After this, IEC approval was obtained. For the pre-test, a hard copy of the sociodemographic proforma, structured knowledge scale and Scale for ADHD-Specific Attitudes (SASA) will be administered after meeting with the study participants. Before each data collection point, informed consent will be taken from participant and clear and appropriate instructions will be given. After pre-test, knowledge scores will be assessed. Participants who get scores below 21 in knowledge scale will be taken for research study. Priorly to session timings were informed and online session link was sent to all study participants. Register of participants who attend the sessions was maintained. For the post-test, tools; structured knowledge scale and Scale for ADHD-Specific Attitudes (SASA) will be administered after 2 weeks of educational program. Web-based teaching sessions which will conducted using web- based technology (Online platform; google meet). This teaching program consisted of sub sessions on ADHD in which 15-20 minutes interactive sub sessions will be conducted along with 10 minutes open discussion. Session will conducted using PowerPoint slides, video, and open discussions through Online platform.
