from households residing in districts like Jhunjhunu and Chirwa the arid areas of Rajasthan,
where Ker (Capparis decidua) and Sangri (Prosopis cineraria) are indigenous vegetables.

Households could be from any religion, caste or economic status

The findings of this study will be able to give the total polyphenol content
and the antioxidant capacity of Capparis decidua and Prosopis cineraria. Few studies suggest
that Ker and Sangri have various health benefits of therapeutic role. However, no mechanisms
have been documented. Thus, this study will help to determine antioxidant and phenolic content
of these plant products and the potential for use of Ker and Sangri in different recipes for
normal and therapeutic use. The recipes standardization in the study will introduce these
indigenous ingredients to multiple communities thus benefiting all.

Brief Summary  

    AIM-
    To determine the total phenolic content and antioxidant capacity of 100 g of Capparis decidua (Ker) and Prosopis cineraria (Sangri) and modification of traditional preparations using the ingredients to suit certain disease conditions

    OBEJECTIVES-

    To determine the uses of Ker and Sangri in traditional recipes and the local beliefs regarding their health benefits.

    To standardize two traditional recipes using both the ingredients and modify the recipes suitable for certain disease conditions such as diabetes and hypertension. 

    To determine total phenolic content of Prosopis cineraria (Sangri) and Capparis decidua (Ker) using Folin Ciocalteu redox method.

    To determine their antioxidant capacity using 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity and FRAP assay (ferric reducing ability of plasma).


    Null Hypothesis: 

    The indigenous vegetables Ker and Sangri show no difference in the total phenolic content and antioxidant capacity.
