ü  Dysmenorrhea is the most common gynecological problem faced by women during their reproductive period which causes significant discomfort and anxiety for the women as well as her family.

ü  A systemic review of studies from India reported the prevalence range between 50-87.8% in developing countries performed by Agarwal & Agarwal (2010) have revealed that about 25-50% of adult women and about 75% of adolescents experience pain during menstruation, with 5-20% reporting severe dysmenorrhea or pain that prevent them from ensuing day-to-day activities.¹

ü  In Udavartini Yonivyapath vitiation of Apana Vata is considered as primary cause as there’ll be Urdvagamana of Vata therefore the line of treatment is to ensure Vatanulomana and Vatahara action. So the  easily available and cost effective drug Chaturbeeja Choorna is chosen due to its Vatanulomana and Vatahara action, therefore Udavartini Yonivyapath management is achieved.^2,3

ü  In modern system NSAID are often prescribed in the treatment of dysmenorrhea. During menstruation, many women experience gastrointestinal discomforts which are increased by analgesics and anti-inflammatory drugs, which also produce headache, dizziness, drowsiness and blurred vision. The role of hormones (estrogens-progesterone or contraceptive pills) as a prolonged therapeutic measure especially on unmarried girls for dysmenorrhea is itself debatable. So there is a great scope of research to find out management which is effective, to treat the entire feature complex with single regimen and find out the treatment for the underlying pathology from Ayurveda for the management of Udavartini Yonivyapath.
