TITLE:
Comparison
of Plyometric Training and Circuit Resistance Training on Physical Fitness
Parameters and Mental Health in School Going Children.
INTRODUCTION:
Exercise
is a subset of physical activity that is planned, structured repetitive and
purposeful which might affect individuals mental health based on constituent
elements. Physical fitness plays an important role for maintenance, development
and improvement of children’s life. Physical Fitness is an essential indicator
of health of children and also good predictor of health in later life. Mental
Health is “state of mental well-being that enables people to cope with the
stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn well and work well and
contribute to their community. Plyometrics training is having beneficial
likewise notably improvements in vertical and horizontal jump performances,
running speed, agility, change of direction speed, balance, ability and
endurance adaptations in children. Circuit Resistance Training is method of
physical conditioning that employed both apparatus resistance and calisthenics
conditioning exercise.
AIM
OF THE STUDY:
The
aim of the study is to compare plyometric training and circuit resistance
training on physical fitness parameters and mental health in school going
children.
METHODOLOGY:
·
Ethical approval
was taken from Institutional Research and Ethics Committee prior to conducting
the study.
·
All participants were assessed as per the
evaluation format. Those who fulfilled the inclusion criteria and exclusion
criteria were taken up for the study.
· They
were randomly divided into two groups by cheat method.
· Written
and oral assent of the parents of participants was taken prior to study.
· All
participants were assessed with JCR score and GHQ12 prior to starting of
training sessions and after week 4 weeks of training post score was measured.
RESULT:
The
result was analysed using paired t test and Wilcoxon for within group analysis,
and Mann Whitney U test for between group analysis of pre and post data of
Circuit Resistance Training and Plyometric Training. Both Group A and B showed
significant difference (p < 0.05) in within group analysis for vertical
jump, chin ups and GHQ12 while for shuttle run only Group B showed significant
difference. Both Group A and B did not show any significant difference for
vertical jumps, chin ups, shuttle run and GHQ12 in between group analysis.
CONCLUSION:
This study concludes that, there is an improvement in
both the groups who performed Plyometric Training and Circuit Resistance
Training.
Physical fitness parameters i.e. explosive
power of legs, muscular strength and mental health showed improvement in both
Circuit Resistance Training Group and Plyometric Training Group while for
agility only Circuit Resistance Training Group showed more improvement than
Plyometric Training.
