Brief Summary
|
Ahar, Nidra and Brahmacharya are three pillars of Ayurveda. Diet plays important role in health and disease. To maintain Health one must consume food which will balance Dominant as well as Recessive Dosha in the Prakruti of an individual. For this purpose one must select food stuff which is having taste (rasa)and qualities (guna) opposite to that of Prakruti.2 But every person has unique liking and disliking towards particular taste of food stuffs. This uniqueness for particular taste for food stuffs is called as Aharaj Abhiruchi . Prakruti is genetic composition of three doshas of Vata, Pitta and Kapha which is confirmed at the time of Shukra -Shonit Sanyog. Though doshic composition remain constant throughout life, certain conditions like age, diet etc definitely affects human tendencies. Dominant or Recessive Dosha in Dwidoshaj Prakruti leaves impact on physiological, Behavioural nature of an individual. Body has tendency to maintain balance in the Dosha which makes prakruti. According to Samanya – Vishesh Siddhant person might have inclination towards diet, opposite to that of Dominant or Recessive Dosha. Along with anatomical and physiological features, Aharaj Abhiruchi of particular Prakruti is also described. | Ayurveda advices to consume food opposite to properties of Doshaj Prakruti to maintain health . So, Abhiruchi or liking of particular food stuff plays a vital role in the health maintainance.Abhiruchi for particular rasa/taste can be changed at different stages of life, and these stages of life with respect to time is called as “Vaya†or age of an individual. According to Charaka, classification of age is as follows9 , Childhood - Up to 30 years Middle age - 30-60 years of age Old age - Above 60 years Nowadays due to stress, wrong diet and lifestyles middle age group individuals are more prone to lifestyle disorders. Individuals are getting affected with lifestyle diseases after 30 itself. So, with this study middle age group individuals can be provided with prescribed proper diet and health guidance by particular food stuffs of particular taste which will help to maintain equilibrium of Doshas. |
