Brief Summary
|
INTRODUCTION: Swimming is a popular sport, aiming at improving health status, physical fitness and quality of life. Freestyle is the most common style of swimming which includes repetitive overhead movement of shoulder, making shoulder injuries being the most common. In freestyle swimming, speed depends upon many factors like propelling force and effective stroke mechanics.
NEED OF THE STUDY: Thoracic spine mobility is important during the recovery phase of freestyle swimming, which is characterized by rotation of the spine thoracic spine at least 45 degrees for breathing. minimum 15 degrees of thoracic extension is required to for an overhead reach. this biomechanics is necessary for proper stroke biomechanics. AIM OF THE STUDY: To study the effect of thoracic mobility exercises on the performance of swimmers.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY: To study the effect of thoracic mobility exercises on 1) Thoracic ROM 2) Swimming speed 3) Stroke Rate (Swim Cadence)
OUTCOME MEASURES: 1) Thoracic rom with bubble goniometer 2) Thoracic mid-curve measurement with flexi ruler 3) 100m swim test 4) Stroke rate
PROCEDURE: An interventional study will be conducted after seeking an approval of the ethical committee. The subjects will be explained about the study in detail and will be screened for the inclusion and exclusion criteria. An informed consent will be taken for those who satify the inclusion criteria. the subjects will be assessed with the outcome measures 1) Thoracic rom with bubble goniometer 2) Thoracic mid-curve measurement with flexi ruler 3) 100m swim test 4) Stroke rate. 9 sessions of physiotherapy will be provided and will be assessed again to note results.
