Brief Summary

Title of the study: Effectiveness of Dance Movement Therapy on Balance in Young Old Geriatric Population

INTRODUCTION

It is well known that as a society we are living much longer thanks to improved living conditions and health care. While being able to reach old age is something to be thankful for, in many ways, there are several challenges facing the elderly, which we all need to pay more attention to.

One of the major difficulty in this population is balance issues, which leads of another troublesome stage wherein they are unable to balance themselves and they fall.

Falls can have very serious consequences as we age. Each year, more than 25 percent of adults 65 or older have a fall, and 3 million are treated in emergency departments for fall injuries, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

DANCE MOVEMENT THERAPY

Dance/movement therapy, usually referred to simply as dance therapy or DMT, is a type of therapy that uses movement to help individuals achieve emotional, cognitive, physical, and social integration. Beneficial for both physical and mental health, dance therapy can be used for stress reduction, disease prevention, and mood management.

The line Anybody Can Dance (ABCD) holds true for each and every individual of our society.  Dancing regularly will help your elderly parent maintain their strength and strong bones, improve their posture and muscle strength, increase their balance and co-ordination so that helps in reducing the risk of falling.

OBJECTIVE

1.To assess the effects of Dance movement therapy on balance in Young old geriatrics using MiniBest test.
