Brief Summary
Modification(s)
|
The study aimed to observe the
effects of Sprint Interval Training on aerobic capacity, muscle power, and
sprint performance among sprinters. Athletes willing to participate were screened
and those fulfilling the inclusion and exclusion criteria will be recruited. Participants
will be divided into 2 groups namely Group A (SIT) and Group B (Control). The
participants will be asked to perform 3 tests: Beep test, Sargent jump test,
and 30-meter sprint test. The intervention group will undergo Sprint
interval training. On a flat running track, a lane will be marked for 30 m. The
instructions are to run the greatest distance possible in 30 seconds (shuttle
run). And during the 4-minute recovery period, the athletes undergo active
recovery. The intervention will be given for 6 sessions, 3 sessions per
week. The data will be collected at baseline and the end of 2 weeks of
training. Statistical Analysis will be done to determine the results of the
study. Group A(SIT) showed significant improvements in Sprint performance
with a decrease in sprint time from (4.26±0.19 to 3.87±0.24 s) from pre- to
post-intervention and Group B also showed improvements in sprint performance
with a decrease in sprint time from (4.48±0.27 to 4.28±0.27s). There was an
improvement in Aerobic capacity in both groups as well with an average
difference of 4.52 ml/kg/min in Group A and 3.03 ml/kg/min in Group B but
statistical significance (p-value <0.001) was seen in Group A when compared
to Group B. There was improvement in muscle power in both groups which was not
statistically significant (p-value 0.16). The study concluded that Sprint interval
training is a time-efficient strategy to induce rapid adaptations in VO2 max
and improvements in muscle power and sprint time.
