Brief Summary
|
The prevalence rate of flat foot is 10.75% among 18-25 year old Indian population .Flat foot can lead to multiple problems like plantar fasciitis, altered mechanism of foot which can in turn lead to knee, hip and back problems. Hence it becomes important to preserve the normal structure of the foot that includes medial & longitudinal arches and strong and active intrinsic muscles of the foot. To preserve the foot structure, the intrinsic flexor muscles of the foot help to stabilize the foot and support the arches. One of the reasons for flat foot is the weakening or inactivity of the intrinsic muscles of the foot. There have been several studies done to check the effect of medial arch support and exercises in the form of toe curls to assess improvement in function and arches of foot among individuals with flat foot. But there have been very few studies that prove the effect of strengthening and activation of intrinsic foot muscles on foot function, medial longitudinal arch and dynamic parameter like vertical jump test and single legged long jump. Thus this study will analyze the effect of intrinsic foot flexors strengthening on foot function, medial longitudinal arch and dynamic parameters among individuals with flat foot. |
