Brief Summary

In many sports, especially team sports like football, rugby, and hockey players must be able to move quickly and nimbly in all directions. Backward mobility is one important movement of any player to keep focus on the ball and team players

Backward running only occurs during warm-up in hockey or most sports warm up sessions.Studies have shown Backward Running is beneficial in the acceleration phases over the first 10 m, analysis of other phases of sprint performance, such as maximal velocity, might have resulted in different findings.

However there is low literature on Backward running more research is needed to determine whether or not Backward Running is an effective way to encourage athleticism, incorporating Backward Running into a comprehensive athlete development programme may provide a novel stimulus that fosters aspects of athletic performance, encourages training variability, and prevents burnout brought on by the monotony of traditional sprint training.

Field hockey requires lot of core endurance as the game is played for 60minutes and includes lot of sprinting for which balance and stability is required.

As lot of lower body involvement is seen in hockey game so the use of tranversus abdominis muscle is also more as it is the first muscle to get activated in any lower limb movement thus demand lower limb endurance and core endurance.

As Backward Running involves more neuro-motor which is a major component for speed, balance and stability,Backward Running training may give more beneficial effect to improve sports performance so,

can Backward Running be incorporated in field hockey players to increase sprint, core endurance and stability?
