Selected Yoga
Techniques |
Intervention period: 10 days.
After taking informed consent, Yoga will be demonstrated and asked to perform by the subjects as per the
prepared protocol.
Asanas- Tadasana, Vrikshasana, Vajrasana, Shashankasana, Baddhakonasan, Pavanamuktasana, Shalabanasana (ekapada and dvipada), Makarasana, Shavasana- 2 rounds each for 10 counts.
Time duration- 15 minutes.
Pranayama- Nadishodhana pranayama, Chandra anulomaviloma pranayama, Sitali & Bhramari- 5 rounds each.
Time duration- 10 minutes.
Meditation- Mindful meditation.
Time duration- 5 minutes.
Total time duration of Yoga practice - 30 minutes per day for 10 days. |

REQUIREMENTS:
Acupuncture needles- 20, Sterile cotton, Surgical spirit and Gloves
PROCEDURE:
Positioning of the Subject- Supine or Sitting.
In an Acupuncture room subjects will be positioned according to the requirement. Then the area of needle insertion is sterilized using surgical spirit. Needle will be held between the thumb and index finger. Tip of the needle will be taken near the acupuncture point and will be used rapidly for piercing the skin. After crossing the skin, the needle can be passed further with a firm rotation and pressure over it and if the needle has gone deeper, it can be withdrawn. After 30 minutes the needles will be removed. |

Details |
Subjects of either sex aged between 18 and 45 years of any religion, cast and socio-economic status.
Subjects suffering with migraine.
Subjects willing and able to participate in the study for 10 days. |

ExclusionCriteria |
Details |
Subjects having tension-type, idiopathic stabbing, exertional and cluster headache.
Subjects having any of the secondary type of headaches.
Patients with evidence of malignancy.
Subjects under medication for psychiatric disorders.
Acute cardiac arrythmias and Congestive cardiac failure.
Pregnant/ lactating mother.
Patients with poorly controlled Hypertension (>160 / 100 mm Hg).
Patients who have a history of Atrial Fibrillation, Acute Coronary Syndrome, Myocardial Infarction, Stroke or Severe Arrhythmia in the last 6 months.
Alcoholics and / or drug abusers. |

Brief Summary
|
Migraine is characterised by periodic headaches which are typically unilateral and are often associated with visual disturbance and vomiting. It is one of the chronic illnesses. Migraine decreases the productivity of an individual. Not just the physical but it also affects his social life. Yoga is an ancient Indian discipline having holistic approach of restoring the abnormalities of body and mind. Acupuncture is also a non- pharmacological, safe and cost- effective intervention useful in treating different types of headaches. Even slight reduce in the intensity of headache makes a big difference for the patient. And the routine life of that individual will greatly differ. Hence, the present study is taken which is aimed to find the effect of Selected Yoga Techniques and Acupuncture in Migraine. Both Yoga and Acupuncture are economic and safe. In this study 40 subjects diagnosed with Migraine, diagnosed using ICHD-3, irrespective of gender will be randomly allocated into 2 groups. Group A-20 subjects and Group B- 20 subjects Intervention of the study: GROUP A Yoga will be demonstrated and asked to perform by the subjects as per the prepared protocol. NOTE: During the period of intervention, subjects taking analgesics for more than 2 days will be dropped out from the study. Subjects are assessed on 0th day and on 10th day after the intervention, and again on 20th and 30th day as follow ups using MIDAS scale and Migraine Specific Quality of Life Questionnaire.
