Brief Summary
|
This study aims to investigate the potential association between NLRP3 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and the occurrence of symptomatic irreversible pulpitis (SIP) and chronic apical periodontitis (CAP) in a section of the North Indian population.
The study will be a case-control study in which participants diagnosed with SIP and CAP will be compared to healthy controls. Gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) samples will be collected from all participants, and NLRP3 SNPs will be analyzed using PCR-based genotyping.
The rationale behind this study is that previous research has shown that NLRP3 inflammasome activation plays a critical role in the initiation and progression of inflammatory diseases, including SIP and CAP. Moreover, it has been suggested that NLRP3 SNPs may be associated with the development and severity of these diseases. However, no studies have investigated the potential relationship between NLRP3 SNPs and SIP and CAP in the North Indian population.
The study will recruit a total of 48 participants, including 16 patients diagnosed with SIP, 16 patients diagnosed with CAP, and 16 healthy controls. The inclusion criteria for the patients will be based on standard clinical and radiographic criteria, while the exclusion criteria will include the presence of any systemic disease. All participants will be asked to sign an informed consent form. Phenotyping will be done to maintain participant confidentiality, and data will be stored securely.
Statistical analysis will be performed to assess the association between NLRP3 SNPs and SIP and CAP. The results of this study may have important clinical implications, as the analysis of NLRP3 SNPs in GCF could potentially serve as a non-invasive diagnostic marker for SIP and CAP.
In summary, this case-control study aims to investigate the potential association between NLRP3 SNPs and the occurrence of SIP and CAP in a section of the North Indian population. The results of this study may contribute to our understanding of the pathogenesis of these diseases and may have important clinical implications for the diagnosis and treatment of SIP and CAP. |
