Brief Summary   This study is to assess the prevalence of metabolic syndrome among young adults (students and clerical staff of AIIMS, New Delhi) from age group of 18 -25 years to develop preventive metabolic syndrome pamphlet and also to assess the association of metabolic syndrome with  selected variables. India is experiencing a rapid health transition with a rising of non-Communicable disease surpassing the burden of communicable diseases like water-borne or vector-borne diseases, TB, HIV, etc.  Metabolic syndrome increases the risk of NCD and presence of one or more components of Metabolic syndrome can increase the risk factors.

With the advancement in economic and the developing changes in lifestyles and dietary habits, the prevalence in metabolic syndrome is increasing rapidly. Prevalence is seen in the older age group and more studies have found that there is increased prevalence in the older age group which has increased the burden of non-communicable disease on global as well as at the national level. Fewer studies are done to assess the prevalence among the young adults.

Diagnosis at an early age can reduce the chances of developing the risk factors as well as halting the disease progression thereby reducing the burden of non-communicable disease. Always prevention is better than cure, so early life styles change with modification and effective education can help individual in reducing the risk factors of developing Metabolic syndrome.
