Intervention / Comparator Agent
Type  Name  Details
Comparator Agent  Surgical induced astigmatism and Visual acuity  Surgical induced astigmatism is compared in between the two approaches of superior vs temporal incision in phacoemulsificaion. Analysis is done for pre op & post op surgically induced astigmatism in Superior vs Temporal clear corneal 3mm incision. Also analysis for preop and post op unaided visual acuity in Superior vs Temporal clear corneal approach will be done.Patients of both approaches will be followed up for day 1,Day 7, Day 30 and Day 90.
Intervention  Temporal clear corneal incision and temporal clear corneal incision in phacoemulsification for cataract patients  All phacoemulsification surgeries were done by a single right-handed surgeon (AN) under peribulbar anesthesia. In temporal approach, the surgeon sits at the 9 o’clock position in the case of the right eye and at 3 o’clock position for the left eye. A side port was made at 90° to the planned main port ie, at 12 o’clock in the right eyes and 6 o’clock in the left eyes.In the superior approach, the main port was made at the 12 o’clock position and the side port was made at the 3 o’clock position for both the eyes. The technique for nuclear fragmentation used was direct chop, and the rest of the surgical steps for both the approaches were done as for routine phacoemulsification.Surgical induced astigmatism is compared in between the two approaches.

Brief Summary   This study is a single blinded randomized control trial of surgical induced astigmatism in cataract patients undergoing phacoemusification via superior clear corneal incision vs temporal clear corneal incision  at tertiary care centre of Garhwal region. Primary outcome to analyze pre-operative & post-operative surgically induced astigmatism in Superior vs Temporal clear corneal 3mm incision by using the parameters of preoperative and postoperative keratometric readings and surgical induced astigmatism at 90 days. Secondary outcome to analyze preoperative and post operative unaided visual acuity in Superior vs Temporal clear corneal approach by using parameters of preoperative and postoperative undercorrected visual acuity and best corrected visual acuity at 90 days.
