Brief Summary
|
Hypertension or elevated blood pressure is a major cause of premature death worldwide. The global prevalence of hypertension has been on the rise and World Health Organization (WHO) has estimated that currently more than a billion people have hypertension and two-thirds of them are in low- and middle-income countries. The teaching profession is a highly stressful occupation due to enhanced psychosocial stress at the workplace. Several studies have reported a susceptibility of teachers to develop hypertension due to work-related risk factors like unhealthy diet, overweight, obesity, and lack of physical activity. The current study aims to assess the behavioural risk factors associated with hypertension among the schoolteachers in Palakkad as well as the hypertension knowledge among them. Nevertheless, the study intends to generate awareness regarding the need for early detection, control, and proper treatment of hypertension among schoolteachers. This cross-sectional quantitative study with a sample size of 211, will be conducted among the government and government-aided schoolteachers of the Palakkad district. In order to achieve the study objectives, participants will be interviewed face to face or in case of covid restrictions through a telephonic interview (online method) using a close-ended questionnaire. The evidence generated through the current study can be used to address the gaps in the control of hypertension among schoolteachers as well as to a large community through them. |
