Brief Summary

RELATION BETWEEN CORE MUSCLE STRENGTH AND FUNCTIONAL STABILITY OF UPPER AND LOWER EXTREMITIES IN AMATEUR ATHLETES: AN EXPLORATORY ANALYSIS

INTRODUCTION: A limited body of evidence provides some support for a link between core stability and upper extremity injuries amongst athletes. Likewise, few studies exist to support a relationship between core stability and athletic performance.

Literature demonstrates that poor core musculature is a risk factor for injuries, both in the upper as well as lower limbs.

Despite the widespread use of core stability training amongst athletes, the question of what is the relationship between core strength and functional stability remains unanswered. The current evidence also, does not quantify how much of the core is involved in stability of the limbs during functional movements.

OBJECTIVES:

1.     To evaluate core strength

2.     To assess functional stability in the dominant and non-dominant, upper and lower extremities.

3.     To find the relation between core muscle strength, and functional stability of upper and lower extremities.

HJMethodology- Based on inclusion and exclusion criteria amateur athletes will be assessed for Values of Y Balance Test(YBT) of Dominant and Non- Dominant Upper and Lower Extremities, Values of Side Bridge Test, Trunk Flexor Test, and Trunk Extensor Endurance Test .

hjProcedure- 3 trials are given for each of the YBT for right and left sides. The athlete performs test for both upper and lower limbs. Mean of 3 trials is taken for each side.

Endurance Tests are tested once each for the three tests above mentioned.

Correlation between the two will then be drawn.
