Brief Summary
|
Corona virus disease 2019 is a rapidly spreading viral infection which is now producing a pandemic outbreak affecting all age groups. we have a spectrum of illness varying from mild to severe illness. the clinical and laboratory results of different age groups are different due to the general susceptibility of the disease and presence of associated co-morbid conditions and life style modifications. the laboratory and radiological findings play an important role in the early diagnosis and treatment of monitoring of COVID-19.Real time reverse transcription PCR assays remain the molecular test of choicefor the etiological diagnosis of SARS CoV2. Transaminases the ALT, AST are altered in viral infections. De Ritis ratio (AST/ALT ratio) is more than 1 in cirrhotics and prognosis was related to the level of the ratio. studies revealed that ratio of less than 1 indicated moderate to severe liver damage. Similarly high LDH levels correlated strongly with severe covid pneumonia as per published data. increased creatinine and blood urea levels, elevated D-dimer, decreased total protein and albumin, increased inflammatory markers like CRP, IL-6, Ferritin are also established. We are attempting to see any positive correlations existing between these laboratory parameters whose combination could be a strong predictor for the severity and prognosis of the COVID-9 disease, especially in a resource limited setting. |
