Brief Summary
|
Airway management is the primary responsibility of the Anesthesiologists which is to secure, preserve and protect it during induction and maintainance and recovery from anaesthesia. Laryngoscopy forms an essential component of general anesthesia and endotracheal intubation. The aim of the laryngoscopy is to obtain a good view of the vocal cords and to facilitate smooth oro-tracheal intubation. Therefore to achieve smooth orotracheal intubation Anesthesiologists various techniques such as optimal head and neck position and various kinds of laryngoscopes to get an optimal view of the glottis. Conventionally, Anaesthesiologist use Macintosh blade for adult intubation and Miller blade for pediatric population. In routine practice, Miller laryngoscope is rarely used in adult and therefore very few literature evidence comparing the straight adult Miller and curved Macintosh laryngoscope in terms of orotracheal intubation. Previous study reviews suggested that glottis view is better with the adult Miller blade while ease of orotracheal intubation had inconclusive results. The previous studies based on randomised clinical trial were conducted on two different individuals and there is lack in literature review with respect to crossover design comparing adult Miller and Macintosh laryngoscope. Hence, we have designed a randomised crossover study to compare ease of orotracheal intubation using adult Miller and Macintosh laryngoscope, on the same individual. |
