Brief Summary   The attempt of this study is to consolidate perceptions of different stakeholders and outline the present knowledge, attitude and practice lags with respect to antibiotic use and misuse. The emerging antimicrobial resistance is not only consumer’s (patient’s) responsibility, but is an integrated result of behavior and practices of healthcare providers as well. Growing pattern of antibiotic misuse (sub optimal duration and frequency) and abuse (non-indicated conditions like headache, abdominal pain) can be outlined unbiasedly only when all the factors influencing the patient’s choice and source of antibiotics are considered.  Thus, assessing the perceptions of providers and consumers is indispensable for effective planning and implementation of awareness generation and antimicrobial stewardship programs.  Assessment of patients’ awareness regarding proper antibiotic usage and ascertaining the perceptions of various stakeholders in the hospital setting like physicians and nurses who directly or indirectly influence the patient’s compliance to antibiotics becomes vital. With this background in mind, we intend to interview patients, physicians and nurses in a teaching hospital to identify the factors that drives the use and misuse of antibiotics.
