Academic performance is the extent to which a student, teacher or institution has achieved their short and long term educational goals. School life comprises 1/3^rd of the life of an individual which influences rest of the life of that student. It is generally noticed that at least 20% of children in a classroom get poor marks and they are scholastically backward.

        There are significant state-wise differences in student performance across states. In India, Kerala, Maharashtra, Orissa and Karnataka were clearly performing overall better than the national average. But the overall percentage of students scoring zero across all states in India was 0.85% for all classes and subjects. Poor academic performance of the student may lead to gradual loss of self-confidence, increased stress, depression, discontinuation of studies and examination malpractice etc. This in turn becomes a matter of worry for parents also.  Hence many parents approach physicians in search of memory and intelligence boosting medications for their children. 

         Ayurveda has contributed several Medhya dravyas which are extensively used in improving academic performance.  Poor academic performance is also tackled through various non-pharmacological measures mentioned in Vedas and Upanishats that help in promotion of Medha and its faculties Grahana, Dharana, Smarana.   Medha Sukta is one such chanting selected from Krishna Yajurveda. Through Medha Sukta prayers are offered to enhance Medha and on regular chanting it is said to improve intelligence. Researches have also upheld its efficiency in improving IQ levels. Medha Sukta can be practiced everyday even by swasta of all age group.
