Brief Summary
|
World health Organization defines reproductive health as a state of complete physical mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity, in all matters relating to the reproductive system and to its functions and processes. The study states ANC service utilization for Maharashtra is 37%. There are total 3002 health infrastructures required in tribal area of Maharashtra out of which 2057 are in position in record and there is still shortfall of 945 health infrastructures in Maharashtra for total tribal population of 9006077. (annual report , 2017-2018)Also another study states that ANC service utilization among one of the tribal district i.e., Thane is 70%(the target population for current research). There are many studies concluding that tribal population is always considered as vulnerable population to innumerable adversities. Many studies have concluded that there are many barriers in accessing ANC services in rural areas of developing countries.(5) Additionally, lack of medical and paramedical staff providing services are also lacking at many places. The study showed shortfall of physicians, pediatricians, or any other specialist at Community Health Centers (CHCs) and doctors at PHCs in tribal areas Every day, approximately 830 women die from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth.99% of all maternal deaths occur in developing countries. The ante-natal care and post natal care has huge influence in reducing maternal mortality rate as well as Infant mortality rate. Maternal mortality is higher in women living in rural areas and among poorer communities i.e., vulnerable population like Tribals. The estimates of Infant Mortality Rate in the Scheduled Tribes population, was found to be about 62 per 1000 live births and U5MR was 96 per 1000 live births. Compared to rest of the population, IMR was higher by 27 percent and U5MR rate was higher by 61 percent. The above data concluded that the reproductive health in tribal area is very much poor in India. So, studying utilization of Ante-natal care among tribal population is important. The results will be at least helpful to local stakeholders so that they can improve and bring changes in policies. |
