Brief Summary
|
Leisure
participation of retired Indian elderly may be affected by urbanization as well
as due to changes in lifestyle and daily routines post retirement. Leisure
being an occupational therapy domain has been studied extensively on western
population, but research on leisure participation of Indian elderly from an
occupational therapy perspective is not available.
As
leisure is highly influenced by personal interests, health status, resources,
cultural and contextual factors, participation of Indian elderly may be
different from that of western countries and so their perspective regarding
leisure may differ. Furthermore,
in India the attitudes of family members influence the participation and
behaviour of elderly. It is therefore imperative to understand the
perspectives of Indian elderly and their family members regarding leisure
occupations. |
