Brief Summary
|
We propose to Study of knowledge,
attitude and perception of cardiopulmonary resuscitation in undergraduate
students. Objectives of our study includes:
- To study the knowledge of undergraduate students regarding cardiopulmonary resuscitation and AED
- To study the attitudes, perception and experience of undergraduate students regarding cardiopulmonary resuscitation and AED
- To check the availability of AED in various public places in the district
In order to estimate the level of knowledge regarding cardiopulmonary resuscitation among undergraduate students at 10%, with a relative precision of 20% at 95% confidence level, and a design effect of 2, total of 1,730 students need to be recruited for our study. We are including the students pursuing undergraduation in various courses in Manipal Academy of Higher Education as our study population. For recruitment of
students, we will go to the respective colleges and administer the
questionnaires to students in their colleges. After taking Informed consent, questionnaire will
be administered to students in digital format. Answers
collected will be statistically analyzed. Subgroup analysis will be done further
between students pursuing medical, paramedical and non-medical courses. A
survey of various public places in the district will be done to check
availability of the AED. Knowledge of
students in key aspects of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, including
identifications, chest compressions, use of AED, choking will be gauged. We
will also be assessing attitudes and perceptions of students regarding CPR and
determining if they had any previous experience with cardiac arrest victims. By doing this study, we can find the lacunae in knowledge
and direct community awareness programs in the country to fill these gaps. By understanding attitude and
perception, we can address the issues and therefore increase bystander CPR
rates in our country. By discussing regarding this topic, we
will be sensitizing students to the topics of cardiopulmonary
resuscitation. |
