Brief Summary
|
Is assistant-less laparoscopic cholecystectomy using a conventional three-port technique feasible and safe in routine surgical practice. Shift to Assistance Free Surgery in Laparoscopy:
Laparoscopic cholecystectomy traditionally requires an assistant to handle the camera and instruments. This study explores performing the procedure independently, without an assistant, which has both technical and ergonomic challenges. Use of Conventional Instruments Without Specialized Equipment: Some assistant free surgeries in the literature utilize robotic arms, mechanical holders, or articulating scopes. This study investigates the feasibility of doing it with readily available instruments, making it more accessible and cost-effective, especially in low-resource settings. Feasibility and Safety Data in a Novel Setting: Preliminary data on operative time, complication rate, conversion rate, and surgeon ergonomics provide early insight into whether it can be a safe and reproducible technique. Such data might be scarce, especially in the context of general hospitals in developing countries. Potential Impact on Surgical Training and Resource Optimization: If proven feasible, the method could reduce dependency on trained assistants, which is particularly valuable in rural or under-resourced environments. This might also influence training curricula for laparoscopic surgeons, promoting techniques that enhance independence. |
