Brief Summary
|
Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a common inflammatory condition with a highly variable clinical course ranging from mild, self-limiting illness to severe, life-threatening disease associated with organ failure and high mortality. Early and accurate assessment of disease severity is crucial for optimizing management, preventing complications, and improving outcomes. Traditional prognostic scoring systems are often complex and time-consuming, necessitating the search for simple, reliable biomarkers. Serum ferritin, an acute-phase reactant that reflects systemic inflammation and oxidative stress, has emerged as a potential prognostic marker in various inflammatory and critical illnesses. Given its ease of measurement and established clinical availability, evaluating serum ferritin levels in relation to the Revised Atlanta Classification may provide an effective tool for early risk stratification in acute pancreatitis, thereby enhancing clinical decision-making and patient care. |
