Introduction ’Kasa’ word is derived from the root "kasri" i.e. "shabda- kutsanyam" which means "Unpleasant sound". Gangadhar, the commentator describes ’Kasa’ from the dhatu "kasri" which means "bhirnnaswara". Commentator Chakrapani derived the word ’ Kasa’ from the root i.e. "gati - Shatanayoh" which means "falling movement" . In Kantha both reflex activities of Prana and Udana Vayu require co-ordinate action. Kasa is one of the common complaint in day to day Paediatric Practice. Kasa is an independent disease as well as symptom of diseases. The etiology of Hikka, Swasa and Kasa are same but samprapties are different. Kasa is also nidhanarthkar roga of some diseases. Acharya Charaka defines Kasa as release of obstructed Vayu resulting in the production of abnormal sound in the process which may be productive or dry.• Chakrapani dutta has commented on the word Kasa as the drawing of chest wall (Ura) during coughing . Acharaya Sushruta defined Kasa as the disease associated with a typical sound similar to sound obtained from broken bronze vessel. Kasa is the most frequentely encountered problem in the Balyavastha (paediatric age) Since Kapha is the main culprit in production of Kasa (cough) and kapha dosha is dominating in Balyavastha . The incidence is more in this age group . Early intervention is necessary in case of Kasa ’ as it may produce kshaya (Tuberculosis) In Bhaishajaya Ratnawali Kasa roga Chikitsa prakran, Vasa avleha and in Bhaishajaya Ratnawali Kasa roga Chikitsa prakran Kantkari Ghrita are indicated for the management of Kasa roga. Therefore, it is decided to evaluate the clinical study of both yogas in the management of Kasa roga in children.
Research Question Are the classical Ayurvedic preparations Kantkari Ghrita & Vasavleha, effective in the management of Kasa w.s.r. to cough in children ?
