Dynamic cupping therapy technique |
Dynamic cupping therapy is used in this study as a manual treatment to reduce pain and improve neck mobility in individuals with cervical radiculopathy. The technique involves placing silicone or glass cups over the muscles related to the affected cervical nerve root. Negative pressure is created using a suction pump to lift the skin and underlying soft tissues. Once suction is applied, the therapist gently moves the cups in a longitudinal gliding manner along the cervical and upper shoulder region. This dynamic movement helps reduce muscle tightness, improve local blood circulation, and decrease neural tension. Each treatment session lasts for 10–15 minutes, with a total duration of 15–20 minutes per session, delivered over 10 sessions on alternate days. Outcome measures used to assess effectiveness include pain intensity measured by the Visual Analogue Scale, cervical range of motion assessed using a universal goniometer, and functional disability evaluated using the Neck Disability Index. |

Spinal Mobilization with Arm Movement (SMWAM) is a manual therapy technique used to treat cervical radiculopathy by reducing pain and improving neck mobility. In this approach, the patient sits upright while the therapist applies a sustained, pain-free glide to the affected cervical spinal segment, usually between C5 and C7. At the same time, the patient actively performs arm elevation on the symptomatic side. This combined movement helps correct minor joint dysfunction, reduce nerve root irritation, and improve neural mobility. The technique is performed in a pain-free manner with 6–10 repetitions per set, three sets per session, over 10 sessions on alternate days. Each session lasts about 15–20 minutes and is followed by home-based cervical isometric and stretching exercises. Treatment outcomes are assessed using the Visual Analogue Scale for pain, cervical range of motion measured with a universal goniometer, and functional disability using the Neck Disability Index. |

This study compares Spinal Mobilization with Arm Movement (SMWAM) and Dynamic Cupping Therapy in individuals with cervical radiculopathy, focusing on pain reduction and improvement in neck mobility. Exclusion criteria include recent cervical trauma or surgery, inflammatory or systemic conditions, cervical myelopathy, systemic neuropathies, and contraindications to cupping therapy such as skin infections or bleeding disorders. |
