Intervention / Comparator Agent
Type  Name  Details
Intervention  Ice  Ice will be prepared by filling a 2.5ml plastic syringe with mineral water and freezing it in freezer. The temperature will be maintained at -4°C to 0°C. Before the application the tip of the syringe will be cut off with a scalpel allowing the ice to be pressed on to the mucosa while it melts at injection site for one minute before administering local anesthesia.
Intervention  Pre cooled topical anesthetic gel  The Lignocaine hydrochloride topical anesthetic gel will be placed in refrigerator 15 min prior to application. A laboratory thermometer will be used to confirm the temperature at 2 - 4°C. Precooled topical anesthetic gel at temperature between 2 - 4°C will be applied followed by local anesthesia administration.
Comparator Agent  Topical anesthetic gel  Lignocaine hydrochloride topical anesthetic gel at room temperature will be applied on the site using a cotton tip applicator. After one minute of applying the topical gel, local anesthesia will be administered.

Brief Summary

This randomized controlled clinical trial will be conducted to compare the effectiveness of topical anesthetic gel, pre-cooled topical anesthetic gel, and ice application in reducing pain during local anesthesia administration in pediatric dental patients. A total of 45 children aged 6–10 years requiring inferior alveolar nerve block will be randomly allocated into three groups of 15 each. The assigned intervention will be applied at the injection site for 1 minute prior to local anesthesia administration. Pain perception will be assessed using the wong baker faces pain rating scale and flacc scale. The findings of the study will help determine the most effective noninvasive method for reducing injection pain and improving cooperation in children.
