Brief Summary

The study titled “The Effectiveness of Mat Pilates on Spatiotemporal Gait Parameters in Post-Menopausal Women: A Randomized Controlled Trial” aims to evaluate the impact of Mat Pilates exercises on walking patterns in post-menopausal women aged 50–65 years.

Post-menopausal women often experience reduced muscle strength, impaired balance, and altered gait due to hormonal and age-related changes, increasing their risk of falls. Since Pilates focuses on core strengthening, flexibility, coordination, posture, and breathing control, it may improve gait performance and mobility. However, limited research exists regarding its specific effect on spatiotemporal gait parameters in this population.

This randomized controlled trial will be conducted at the OPD of Gurugram University over a period of four months. A total of 60 participants (30 in each group) will be recruited. Participants will be randomly divided into:

  • Group A (Experimental Group): Mat Pilates program (45 minutes, 10 repetitions per exercise, small groups of 2–3 participants).

  • Group B (Control Group): Conventional exercise program including flexibility, strengthening, postural control exercises, and walking.

Outcome measures will include spatiotemporal gait parameters such as cadence, step length, stride length, stride time, and velocity, assessed through observational gait analysis.

The study aims to compare the effectiveness of Mat Pilates with conventional exercises. The null hypothesis states that there will be no significant difference between the two interventions, while the alternate hypothesis proposes a significant improvement in gait parameters with Mat Pilates.

Overall, this research seeks to determine whether Mat Pilates can be an effective intervention for improving gait and reducing fall risk in post-menopausal women, thereby enhancing their mobility and quality of life.
