Utility of A Clinical Repertory To The Dictionary Of Materia Medica By Dr. J H Clarke in the management of cases of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease. |
Patients fulfilling the inclusion and exclusion criteria will be enrolled in the study after obtaining written informed consent. Detailed case taking will be carried out at the first visit based on information obtained from the patient, patient’s attendant wherever applicable, physician’s clinical observations, and relevant investigations.
Individualized homoeopathic medicines will be prescribed based on the totality of symptoms with the help of A Clinical Repertory To The Dictionary of Materia Medica by Dr. J. H. Clarke, following homoeopathic principles. Selection of medicine, potency, and repetition will be decided according to the individual requirement of each case.
Patients will be followed up every 15 days or earlier if required. Evaluation will be done using the GERD-Q score, recorded at baseline and during follow-ups up to six months. Final assessment will be done by comparing pre- and post-treatment GERD-Q scores. |

1. Patients willing to provide written informed consent for the study.
2. Diagnosed cases of GERD presenting with evidence of endoscopic findings.
3. Patients with uncomplicated GERD presenting with symptoms of heartburn and regurgitation, and a GERD-Q score more than or equal to 8 confirming clinical diagnosis. Endoscopy will be advised only in patients showing alarming symptoms (such as dysphagia, odynophagia, unintentional weight loss, gastrointestinal bleeding, anaemia or persistent vomiting) or if clinically indicated. |

| ExclusionCriteria |
| Details |
1. Patients with advanced pathology of GERD or malignancy.
2. Cases suffering from uncontrolled systemic illness or life-threatening conditions.
3. Patients already taking acid suppressing medications or other treatment and not willing to leave it.
4. Pregnant and lactating women.
5. Patients who are immunocompromised.
6. Patients who are unwilling to take part and not giving consent for the study. |

Brief Summary
|
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a common chronic gastrointestinal disorder that significantly affects the quality of life of affected individuals. Despite the availability of conventional treatment, many patients continue to experience persistent symptoms, emphasizing the need for individualized therapeutic approaches. Homoeopathy emphasizes individualized treatment based on the totality of symptoms, and repertorization forms the foundation of remedy selection. This prospective, open-label, single-arm clinical study is designed to evaluate the utility of A Clinical Repertory to the Dictionary of Materia Medica by Dr. J. H. Clarke as a repertorial tool in the management of cases of gastroesophageal reflux disease. Patients fulfilling the eligibility criteria will be enrolled from the outpatient department of the institution. Detailed homoeopathic case taking will be carried out for each patient, followed by repertorial analysis using A Clinical Repertory to the Dictionary of Materia Medica by Dr. J. H. Clarke for the prescription of individualized homoeopathic medicines. The outcome of the study will be assessed using a validated GERD symptom score, namely the GERD-Q scale, at baseline and during follow-up over a period of six months. The study also aims to observe the clinical presentation of gastroesophageal reflux disease in the study population. The results of this study may help establish the clinical utility of A Clinical Repertory to the Dictionary of Materia Medica by Dr. J. H. Clarke in the individualized homoeopathic management of GERD. |
