Initial position: Patients assume the full prone lying position on a plinth.
The therapist Place the thumb on the affected side muscle.
Hook the thumb on the lateral edge of the muscle to form pressure against the muscle.
Then, Generate a minor pause.
The muscle will pluck-respond in a particular way when the thumb is flattened in the inner direction.
The therapists hands are placed with an inch of space between the thumbs and fingers so that the hands can play with the muscles simultaneously.
Treatment time – 15 - 20min alternate day
Rest Interval time: 2mins
Repetitions: 2 - 3 times |

Brief Summary
|
Low back pain is the most common reason individuals visit physicians, seeking effective non
surgical treatment approaches such as exercise for managing low back pain.
Few studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of simple clinical and home-based exercise
programs for mechanical low back pain.
The Bowen Technique, a holistic manual therapy that involves gentle, non-invasive movements
over muscles, tendons, and fascia, has gained attention as a complementary intervention for pain
management.
Promoting relaxation and stimulating the body’s self-healing mechanisms may offer a unique
approach to alleviating pain and enhancing the quality of life in individuals with mechanical low
back pain.
However, despite its growing popularity, evidence supporting the effectiveness of the Bowen
Technique remains limited, necessitating further exploration of its potential benefits.
This study examines the effect of the Bowen Technique on pain intensity and quality of life among
individuals with mechanical low back pain, aiming to provide insights into its clinical applicability
and efficacy as part of a comprehensive management strategy.
Therefore, it is necessary to examine the effects of Bowen’s technique on pain and quality of life
among individuals with mechanical low back pain.
There are Traditional Low Back Pain Program which is our old, standard program used by many
therapists in physiotherapy centre. It includes two programs; Flexion – oriented low back pain
exercises and Extension – oriented low back pain exercises.
Flexion – oriented low back pain exercises includes aim to bend the lower back forward, which can
be beneficial for people experiencing pain with back extension. It also helps to alleviate pain by
gently compressing the facet joints and stretching the spinal ligaments.
Extension- oriented low back pain exercises includes movements that involve arching the lower
back which engages the core muscles while extending the spine in a controlled manner; any
exercise that emphasizes the backward bending motion of the lumber spine. |
