Brief Summary   There are few Indian studies on the epidemiology of chronic wounds, one study estimated the prevalence at 4.5/1000population. According to an Indian Community-based Epidemiological Study of Wounds, the percentage was 4.5% in India [1]. Shalya Tantra an ancient Indian surgery deals with different kinds of Vrana and its Management, which refers for, “Vrana Gatra Vichoornane" discontinuity of skin/other body tissues. Wound is break in continuity of the skin/tissue, wound infection continue to represent major medical problem in term of outcome of surgical procedure [2]. In Ayurveda infected wound can be correlated to Dushta vrana. Chronic wound e.g. Diabetic foot ulcer, presser ulcer, venous ulcer may be considered infectious, classical signs include Pain, delayed healing, discharge, Peri wound edema, malodors, wound discoloration, induration, purulent exudate. Proper wound care is necessary to prevent infection & promote healing of wound [3]. Sushruta has elaborately explained Dushta Vrana with its Lakshana and management. A wound which refuses to heal/heals very slowly is known as Dushta Vrana. Dushta vrana can be nearly correlated with that of infected wound [4]. Acharya Sushruta elaborately described about the treatment of Vrana in Shasti Upakrama [5]. Lepa is one among them used in the treatment due to its direct application on the Vrana for better absorption. Malahara are preparation frequently used in the management of Dushta vrana, has Vrana Ropana and Shodhana, Snehana, Lekhana action [6]. Hence in this study here an attempt is made to explore the effect of Vranamrita Shweta Malahara [12] in the management of Dustha Vrana and to compare its effect with Gandhakadya Malahara [13,20,21] due to its Lekhana and Twak Doshahara properties.
