Intervention  pre post interventional   Sprinter-Pattern Exercise - The participants lay on their backs with their knees bent at a 45° angle and their arms resting beside them on the floor. Upon receiving a given signal, participants raised their heads off the mat and simultaneously performed a series of coordinated arm and leg movements: flexing, adducting, and externally rotating one arm, while extending and internally rotating the corresponding leg. Conversely, they extended, abducted, and internally rotated the other arm while flexing, adducting, and externally rotating the opposing leg. • Dosage- 10 repetitions x 3 sets with holding each movement for 10 sec. • Break in between two sets for 15 sec to reduce fatigue. • Intervention to be provided for 3 times a week for four weeks. Conventional exercises - Interferential current for 10 minutes -Stretching- hamstrings, quadriceps, piriformis, thoracolumbar fascia -lumbar stabilization exercise- pelvic tilt, pelvic bridging the intervention is for four weeks

Title:
Effectiveness of Sprinter-Pattern Exercise on the Lumbar Lordotic Curve, Pelvic Tilt, and Low Back Pain in Individuals with Lumbar Hyper-lordosis: A Pre-Post Intervention Study

Summary:
Lumbar hyper-lordosis is an excessive inward curvature of the lumbar spine, often linked with anterior pelvic tilt, muscle imbalances, and chronic low back pain. Conventional abdominal exercises may sometimes worsen spinal stress, so alternative exercise approaches are needed.

The Sprinter-pattern exercise, designed by Dietz, combines functional arm and leg movements with abdominal activation to improve trunk stability, posture, and spinal alignment. Previous studies have shown immediate benefits, but evidence for long-term effects is limited.

This study aims to evaluate whether a 4-week program of sprinter-pattern exercise (combined with conventional therapy) can reduce lumbar lordotic angle, correct pelvic tilt, and decrease low back pain in individuals with hyper-lordosis.

Methodology:

  • Design: Pre-post intervention study

  • Sample size: 37 participants (aged 18–50, with lumbar lordosis angle >40° and chronic mechanical back pain >3 months)

  • Intervention: Sprinter-pattern exercise + conventional therapy, 3 sessions per week for 4 weeks

  • Outcome Measures:

    • Lumbar lordotic angle (Kinovea software)

    • Pelvic tilt (pelvic inclinometer)

    • Pain (Numerical Rating Scale)

  • Follow-up: 1 month post-intervention 

  • Objectives:

    1. Assess effect of sprinter-pattern exercise on lumbar lordotic curve.

    2. Assess effect on pelvic tilt.

    3. Assess effect on low back pain.

    Expected Contribution:

    If effective, this exercise can provide a non-invasive, cost-effective rehabilitation strategy for managing hyper-lordosis and associated back pain, with potential applications in physiotherapy and posture correction programs.
