MRI was undoubtedly an indispensable tool to
evaluate patients presenting with intracranial
infections. Most of the cases were pathognomonic
in imaging appearance; while some required
clinico-laboratory correlation. Careful evaluation
of MR behaviour of infectious lesions helped in
identifying not only the precise location and
extent of the lesion, but also in proposing a
specific etiology in many such patients.

Brief Summary
|
This prospective cross-sectional study aims to assess the role of MRI in the evaluation of intracranial infections, which remain a major health concern in India due to their high prevalence, non-specific presentations, and frequent diagnostic delays. A total of 44 patients with clinical suspicion of intracranial infections will undergo MRI using both conventional sequences (T1, T2, FLAIR) and advanced techniques such as diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI), and post-contrast studies to evaluate parenchymal, meningeal, and vascular involvement. The study objectives are to describe MRI characteristics of various infections, document clinical presentations, identify imaging predictors of poor prognosis, and correlate radiological findings with CSF analysis. By integrating clinical and imaging data, this study seeks to highlight MRI as a critical non-invasive tool for early diagnosis, prognostication, and treatment planning in intracranial infections, particularly in resource-limited settings. |
