Brief Summary  

NEED OF STUDY 

As people grow older, mental and motor performance will slowly decrease, with reaction time starting to slow significantly after 30. Decline is caused by the slowing of neural processing and changes in musculoskeletal function, potentially impacting the speed of decision making and physical reaction. These changes have important consequences for the labor force, since middle-aged workers make up a large percentage of workers in many industries where fast reflexes and fast decision-making are critical for safety and efficiency. Occupations requiring high alertness, including machinery operation, health care, or driving, could experience direct effects on productivity and risk control because of these age changes. Moreover, decreased reaction times enhance the risk of accidents, especially in settings where rapid decisions are required. Decreased reflexes will help cause elevated risks of falls and occupational injuries, hence becoming a significant issue of public health. Unfortunately, this important problem has inadequate research on reaction time among middle-aged Indian adults. The majority of research conducted in this area has largely centered on either younger or older populations, with a gap in normative data for the middle-aged population. As India possesses a large and increasing middle-aged working population, it is essential to fill this gap in research to better appreciate the consequences of reaction time decline, formulate intervention strategies, and increase workplace safety.

OBJECTIVES 

Primary Objective : 
Establish Age appropriate Normative values : To determine the normative values of the Ruler Drop Test in Adults aged 30 - 50 in Urban Indian Population.

Secondary Objective :
Study the variations in Reaction time between Males and Females : To identify significant difference in Reaction Time between the two genders. 

AIM 
To establish normative values for Ruler Drop Test in Urban Indian population, specifically focusing on adults aged 30 - 50yrs to provide a developmental benchmark for reaction time.
