CERVICAL JOINT POSITION SENSE: It is assessed using Head Repositioning Accuracy test

HEAD POSTURE: Head Posture is assessed for severity of Forward Head Posture using Photogrammetry method. Craniovertebral Angle is calculated using Photogrammetry method.

NECK PAIN INTENSITY: Neck pain intensity is measured using Visual Analogue Scale (VAS)

Brief Summary

Proprioception provides sensory feedback from the body to the nervous system, thus contributes to maintenance of optimal body alignment. Joint position sense is a primary measure to operationalize proprioception. Joint position sense is altered by several factors which include muscle fatigue, whiplash injuries, degenerative changes in muscles etc. Head posture is also a crucial factor affecting joint position sense. Poor ergonomics, excessive smartphones and computer usage are crucial factors leading to forward head posture, which ultimately results in neck pain. Various studies have assessed joint position sense in individuals with neck pain and forward head posture independently, however there is lack of comparative research focusing on individuals with forward head posture who have neck pain versus those who do not have neck pain. There is a need to bridge the gap in the current research by comparing joint position sense in individuals with forward head posture with neck pain versus those without neck pain. Thus, this study aims to compare joint position sense in individuals with forward head posture who have neck pain versus those who do not have neck pain. Total 28 participants with forward head posture will be recruited in the study. 14 participants will be with neck pain and 14 without neck pain. Participants will be recruited in the study by purposive sampling method and according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Participants will be assessed for pain intensity using visual analogue scale, head posture will be assessed using photogrammetry method and craniovertebral angle will be calculated. Cervical joint position sense will be assessed using head repositioning accuracy test in study group and control group. Data will be collected in a single session. The data will be analyzed by comparing mean values of joint position sense error between individuals with forward head posture with neck pain and those without neck pain using appropriate parametric or non-parametric tests depending on data normality. The study will also analyze the odds of finding altered joint position sense in those exposed to neck pain.
