Delimitation Study is delimited to the mother of children diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Autism Spectrum Disorder
Phase 1 Research Design Descriptive cross sectional survey design Phase 1 Population Mothers of Children with behavioral Problems Phase 1 Sample Mothers of Children with behavioral Problems attending Psychiatric OPD and IPD NRS MCH Kolkata West Bengal Phase 1 Sample Size N 200 To be recalculated after Pilot study Phase 1 Sampling technique Mothers will be recruited from Psychiatric OPD and IPD NRS MCH Kolkata West Bengal India according to inclusion criteria by purposive sampling technique Phase 1 Setting Psychiatric OPD and IPD NRS MCH Kolkata West Bengal India Phase 1 Inclusion criteria Mother of child diagnosed with ADHD Mother of child diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder Mother who is dealing with behavioral problem at least 6 months Mother who is willing to participate in the study and will give written consent Mother who can read and understand Bengali or English Mother of child within age group up to 16 years Phase 1 Exclusion criteria Mother with known psychiatric disorder Mother with auditory or other impairments Phase 1 Tool & Technique Tool Semi Structured interview schedule for demographic proforma & factors for parenting stress Technique Interviewing Parental Stress Scale standardized tool to assess level of parenting stress Phase 1 Data analysis Frequency Percentage mean SD and chi square test
PHASE 2 Methodology PHASE 2 OBJECTIVES 1 To evaluate the effectiveness of Parent Teaching Program PTP in terms of Quality of Life of mothers of children with behavioral problems Family Impact of mothers of children with behavioral problems Coping Strategies of mothers of children with behavioral problems Phase 2 Research Design Non equivalent Control Group Pre test Post Test Design Phase 2 Population Mothers of Children with behavioral Problems Phase 2 Sample Mothers of Children with behavioral Problems attending Psychiatric OPD and IPD NRS MCH Kolkata West Bengal Selected from Phase 1 mothers with parenting stress more than 50th percentile will to be included in the phase 2 of study Phase 2 Sample Size 60 in each group that is in Experimental and Control Group Phase 2 Sampling technique Mothers with parenting stress index more than 50th percentile To be selected from phase 1 Simple random sampling method will be adopted to assign the mothers in two groups Intervention & Control group Phase 2 Setting Psychiatric OPD and IPD NRS MCH Kolkata West Bengal India for both Intervention & Control group
Phase 2 Inclusion criteria Mothers who has participated in the phase 1 of study Mothers with parenting stress score more than 50th percentile Mother who is willing to participate in the Phase 2 of the study Mother who will give written consent Mother who can read or understand Bengali or English Phase 2 Exclusion criteria Mother who is very sick at the Phase 2 of the study Phase 2 Tool & Technique WHO BREF QOL by WHO Family Impact Module By MAPI Trust Phase 2 Standardize Tool BRIEF COPE INVENTORY Standardize Tool Parental Stress Scale Standardized Tool
Details about Intervention The intervention is a PTP that is Parent Teaching Program prepared by a Researcher to deal with challenging behavior of their child with ADHD and ASD It is computer assisted teaching program to be administered one to one face to face in two sessions Day 1 and Day 15 Total Duration of the program 4 hours in two sessions Each session 2 hours approximately The intervention will be administered in the Phase 2 of the study to the mothers of he children with behavioral problems with high stress score that is more than 50th percentile Mother will get intervention along with standard treatment on Day 1 Day 15 of the study Phase 2 Pre Test will be taken on Day 1 and Day 15 Post Test will be taken on Day 30 and Day 60 Control group will get only Standard treatment Pretest will be taken on Day 1 and Day 15 Post Test will be taken on Day 30 and Day 60
