Brief Summary
|
Title of Study
Effectiveness of Motor Control Exercises on Pain and Posture in Chronic Low Back Pain A Pilot Experimental Study
Background and Rationale
Chronic nonspecific low back pain is a common musculoskeletal condition affecting posture daily functioning and overall quality of life. Motor control exercises focus on improving deep core muscle activation and spinal stability and may be effective in reducing pain and improving posture. However limited evidence exists comparing their effectiveness to routine clinical practice approaches. This pilot study aims to evaluate the effect of motor control exercises on pain and posture in individuals with chronic low back pain.
Study Design
This research will follow an experimental study design. It is planned as a pilot study.
Study Setting
The study will be conducted at the outpatient physiotherapy department of Chitkara University Punjab.
Ethical Approval and Consent
Ethical approval will be obtained from the Institutional Human Ethics Committee of Chitkara University Punjab. Written informed consent will be obtained from all participants before data collection.
Study Duration
The duration of the study will be six months.
Study Population
Individuals diagnosed with chronic nonspecific low back pain.
Sample Size and Sampling Technique
A total of 60 participants will be included in the study using convenience sampling.
Eligibility Criteria
Inclusion
Participants aged 18 to 45 years with chronic nonspecific low back pain diagnosed by a physiotherapist or orthopaedician of either gender and symptoms persisting for at least six months.
Exclusion
History of cardiopulmonary or neurological disease previous spinal surgery spinal tumours infections musculoskeletal conditions related to low back pain cognitive impairment severe mental health issues and pregnancy.
Intervention Duration
Each participant will undergo a 30 minute session three times per week for four weeks.
Intervention
Participants will receive a structured motor control exercise program that includes abdominal drawing in manoeuvre training and progressive exercises in three stages over four weeks.
Outcome Measures
Pain will be measured using the Numerical Pain Rating Scale NPRS and posture will be assessed using the Ovako Working Posture Analysis System OWAS at baseline and after the fourth week of intervention.
Data Analysis
Data will be analyzed using SPSS version 21 and Microsoft Excel. Results will be presented as mean and standard deviation. Paired t test will be used for within group analysis and independent t test for comparison between baseline and post intervention outcomes. |
