Brief Summary   The institutional maintenance employee’s job entails many tasks and is physically demanding in most cases. Polishing, making the bed, vacuuming, taking out the trash, dusting, and mopping the floors are some of the repetitive tasks that are encountered when assessing maintenance employee services. There are numerous reasons for conducting this study on institutional maintenance employees, one of the reasons being that they are the most vulnerable and face a lot of stigma among them. The maintenance employees often work in challenging environments that can influence their mental well-being. It can help to identify gaps and provide the necessary support by understanding their mental health literacy and help-seeking behaviour. Several studies have indicated that mental health literacy can assist in eliminating the stigma surrounding mental illness by raising awareness and creating an understanding among employees and management. The fallacies of thought among the populace about mental problems and the trends they adopt should be discovered and addressed. Further awareness programs have to enter into action to scrutinise their assistance-seeking behaviour and mental health competence. Realisation of mental well-being in conjunction with physical well-being may promote a well-rounded method for the well-being of employees, consequently enhancing their output.

In this study, the selected sample consists of institutional maintenance employees from the institution in the Udupi district.

In this study, three research tools were used for data collection: a demographic proforma, the Mental Health Literacy Questionnaire – Short Version for Adults (Standardised), and a Help-Seeking Behaviour Assessment Tool (self-structured).

The Objectives of the study are to –

  1. assess mental health literacy (MHL) among institutional maintenance employees using the Mental Health Literacy questionnaire – short version adult (MHLq-SVa).
  2. analyze help-seeking behaviour among institutional maintenance employees using the help-seeking behaviour assessment tool.
  3. assess the relationship between mental health literacy (MHL) and help-seeking behaviour among institutional maintenance employees                                                                                                                        

 Data will be analysed using Jamovi 2.6.44. Descriptive statistics: Frequency, Percentage, Mean, Standard Deviation. Inferential statistics: Pearson correlation.
