Brief Summary
|
This cross-sectional observational study aims to evaluate the Pressure Pain Threshold (PPT) at Parshwasandhi Marma, one of the vital Marma points located at the lumbosacral junction, and to explore its correlation with individual Prakriti (body constitution) and Sattva Saar (mental strength) as described in Ayurveda. Marma Chikitsa, a traditional non-invasive therapeutic approach, has been historically practiced to alleviate musculoskeletal disorders. However, standardized parameters regarding pressure application at specific Marma sites remain undefined. This study seeks to establish baseline data to aid in the scientific standardization and personalization of Marma therapy.
A total of 385 healthy volunteers aged 18–60 years will be recruited from the National Institute of Ayurveda, Jaipur. Each participant’s Prakriti will be assessed using the CCRAS tool, and Sattva Saar will be evaluated with a validated questionnaire. The Parshwasandhi Marma will be anatomically localized, and PPT will be measured bilaterally using a Digital Pressure Algometer. The lowest pressure that induces pain will be recorded as the PPT. Three readings per side will be taken and averaged. Statistical analyses (ANOVA, correlation tests) will be applied to determine associations between PPT, Prakriti, and Sattva Saar.
The study is expected to yield normative data on PPT at Parshwasandhi Marma and identify variations linked to constitutional and psychological factors. Findings will help formulate individualized and evidence-based Marma Chikitsa protocols, contributing to safe and effective pressure application. This research is among the first to integrate psychophysical measurements with Ayurvedic parameters, bridging traditional knowledge and modern pain assessment techniques. The outcomes may support the standardization and wider clinical adoption of Marma therapy in integrative pain management. |
