Brief Summary

Pain and tooth loss resulting from oral diseases adversely affect appearance, nutrition, quality of life, growth and development of students. The cost of treating dental caries alone is huge on country and family. Advance stages of dental treatment for caries is not only painful but it affects their academic performance and put financial burden too. Oral health education in school children can improve oral hygiene and instil good eating practice in them The approach suitable is focus on prevention of Dental caries and gum disease. Aim of this proposed study is to assess the effectiveness of an oral health curriculum intervention in reducing dental caries incidence and improving oral hygiene behaviour among high school children in grades 7–9 of the Angara, Ranchi district. The present study will be carried out in school premises.  Participating Children would be examined by Dentist in well-lit class rooms under sufficient natural light by using mouth mirror and probe following strict aseptic protocol. Dental caries, dental health status and oral hygiene status will be measured by Dentist at beginning, after 6 months and finally after 1 year. As a benefit of participating in the study, children will be given a referral card from the dental hospital for any further check-ups or dental treatment.
