Brief Summary   EFFECT OF McGILL BIG THREE VERSUS CORE  STRENGTHENING EXERCISES IN SUBJECT WITH NON – SPECIFIC LOW BACK PAIN-RANDOMIZED CONTROLLED TRIAL

AIM:

To evaluate the effect of McGill big three versus core strengthening exercises in subjects with non-specific low back pain on pain, strength, quality of life and range of motion.

OBJECTIVES:

To evaluate the effect of McGill big three versus core strengthening exercises in subjects with non-specific low back pain on pain using visual analog scale, strength  using pressure biofeedback, Range of Motion using Modified Modified Schober’s test, and quality of life using Oswestry Low back pain disability questionnaire.

METHODOLOGY:

Study type: Randomized Controlled Trial

Target population: Both Male and Female aged between 18-35 years with non-specific low back pain

Sample size: 32 participants

OUTCOME MEASURES:

Pain using visual analog scale, strength  using pressure biofeedback, Range of Motion using Modified Modified Schober’s test, and quality of life using Oswestry Low back pain disability questionnaire.

INCLUSION CRITERIA

1.     Both male and female aged between 18-35 years willing to participate with non-specific low back pain.(16)

2.     Having non – specific  low back pain since 2 months or more.(17)

3.     Pain intensity greater than equal to 3 on Visual Analog Scale at baseline.(18)

EXCLUSION CRITERIA

1.     Any co- morbid factors like congenital, malignant, autoimmune and neurological conditions involving head, neck and spine.

2.     Any trauma to head, neck and spine region less than 6 months.

3.     Pregnancy or less than 6 months postpartum.

4.     Who are unable to comprehend to the commands.

5.     Undergoing any professional physical activity training.

PROCEDURE:

Prior to the commencement of the study an ethical clearance will be obtained from KAHER Institute of Physiotherapy’s Institutional Ethical Committee.

Following which we will register our study in CTRI.

Participants will be screened according to the outcome measures.

Participants will be briefed about the study.

a written informed consent will be given to the participants and those consenting to participate will be recruited after screening.

brief demographic data will be obtained from each participant prior to the assessment.

Participants will be randomly allotted by envelop method into two groups; group A and group B. Group A will be given Mcgill Big Three Exercises and Group B will receive core Strengthening exercises.

Goup A (McGill Big Three)

Each exercise will be given for 10 reps with a rest interval of 2 minutes.

McGill Big Three exercises include: Modified curl up, side plank and bird dog.

These will be given for 3 days/week for 6 weeks

Group B (Core strengthening Exercises)

Group B will receive conventional exercises which include single and double knee to chest, prone lying with pillow with one leg sliding, cycling in supine, bridgeing exercises for 3 days/week for 6 weeks.

Each exercise will be given for 10 reps with rest interval of 2 minutes between exercises.

Both Group A and Group B will be treated with hot moist pack for 20 minutes and IFT on low back region for 20 minutes for 3 days/week for 6 weeks
