Brief Summary
|
Several studies have explored the role of digital communication technologies, such as text messages and mobile apps, in improving patient compliance and treatment outcomes in healthcare and orthodontics. Research highlights that timely reminders can significantly enhance attendance, adherence to treatment protocols, and self-care behaviors. For instance, mobile-based systems have proven effective in managing chronic conditions like hypertension and HIV, showcasing their potential in patient education and engagement. In orthodontics, the use of short message services (SMS) and apps like WeChat,WHATSAPP has shown promise in improving oral hygiene, reducing missed appointments, and shortening the duration of treatment. Text reminders and educational content have been reported to positively influence patients’ adherence to oral hygiene practices and reduce orthodontic treatment complications, such as bracket bond failures. However, while some studies have demonstrated improved outcomes with these interventions, others emphasize the need for skill-based training in addition to reminders to achieve sustainable behavioral changes. This growing body of evidence underscores the importance of integrating digital tools in orthodontic practice to enhance patient compliance and overall treatment efficiency. |
