Comparator Agent  Home exercise program   participants will perform a set of conventional exercises at home. A detailed booklet will be given to all participants. The conventional treatment includes patient education on the causes and effects of rounded shoulder posture, ergonomic advice for workstations and daily activities, and a set of validated home exercises. This treatment will also be incorporated into the experimental group. 
Intervention  Stretching and strengthening   Participants in the experimental group will undergo a 4-week rounded shoulder posture correction program, conducted 3 times a week. The intervention includes stretching of tight anterior shoulder muscles (e.g., pectoralis major and minor) and strengthening of weak posterior muscles (e.g., rhomboids, middle and lower trapezius). All sessions will be supervised, and outcomes will be measured pre- and post-intervention.

Minimum three hour of computer uses for at least 1 year time period. Inactive / sedentary participants only (

ExclusionCriteria 
Details  History of instability, dislocation, fracture, or movement limitation in the shoulder and neck area. History of shoulder or neck surgery, malignant tumors in the shoulder or cervical area, neurological symptoms, cardiovascular diseases, hereditary and congenital abnormalities, pregnancy. Severe forward head posture (Craniovertebral angle less than 45 degree).
Pulmonary diseases such as asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD), pneumonia, tuberculosis, etc.

Title

Effect of Rounded Shoulder Posture Correction exercises on Chest Expansion, Pulmonary functions and Self-Esteem among computer users.

Introduction

Rounded Shoulder Posture (RSP) is a common postural deviation characterized by forward positioning of the shoulders, often due to prolonged sitting, poor ergonomics, or muscular imbalances. This posture can negatively affect musculoskeletal alignment, respiratory mechanics, and psychosocial well-being. It may restrict chest expansion, impair lung function, and lower self-esteem due to altered body image. Addressing RSP through corrective exercises and postural training may lead to improvements not only in physical health but also in mental well-being.

Objectives:

  • To evaluate the effect of posture correction on pulmonary function in individuals with RSP.
  • To assess changes in chest expansion following postural correction.
  • To determine the impact of shoulder posture correction on self-esteem.

Methodology:

This experimental study included individuals diagnosed with rounded shoulder posture. Participants were selected based on specific inclusion and exclusion criteria. The intervention group received posture correction exercises over a fixed duration. Outcome measures such as pulmonary function (via spirometry), chest expansion (using inch tape), and self-esteem (through a standardized questionnaire) were recorded pre- and post-intervention. Statistical analysis was conducted to compare changes within and between groups.

Significance of the Study:

This study aims to highlight the broader effects of posture correction, extending beyond musculoskeletal benefits to include respiratory and psychological health. By improving awareness and intervention strategies for RSP, physiotherapists can adopt a more holistic approach to patient care. The findings may contribute to developing effective postural rehabilitation protocols to enhance both physical function and self-esteem in affected individuals.
