Brief Summary

Aim: To find out the association between Self-Efficacy and LOC and their impact on an individual’s Propensity to Trust, explained by the Barnum effect.
Objective: To explore the relationship between Self-Efficacy and LOC and Propensity to Trust among in adults.

Justification for study: Existing literature does not adequately address how Self-efficacy and Locus of Control influence an individual’s propensity to trust. Exploring these factors can help to inform educational strategies aimed at enhancing self-efficacy and fostering internal locus of control. This would help individuals improve self-evaluation of personal development and academic performance objectively. Studying Barnum effect can help assess how beliefs about oneself and perceived competence can affect evaluation of external cues. There is some controversy within the studies regarding the link between Self-Efficacy and Locus of Control and how they interact to influence the susceptibility to Barnum effect. This research aligns with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being. As it is aimed at promoting mental health and interpersonal trust.

Procedure: The participants will be providing online consent in the Google forms, and their confidentiality will be assured throughout the process. The participants are requested to fill in sociodemographic details in the initial section. Individuals who fulfil the inclusion criteria alone will proceed to fill in the remainder of the questionnaires such as the ‘General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSE),’ Locus of Control Scale’ (LOC) and Propensity to Trust Scale.

Identifiers like name, contact number and email ID will not be obtained from the participants to maintain confidentiality. The data will then be analyzed for statistical significance.
