Chandra namaskar |
There are 17 poses or asanas in one complete sequence of Chandra namaskar
which will be done as 5 repetitions. Each asana will be done with a 5 second
hold. Total duration of intervention per session will be 15 minutes including 2 minutes of rest between 2 consecuitive repetitions. Protocol will be given daily for 2 weeks.
Asanas-Tadasana, Chandrasana,
Utkatakonasana, Uthita Tadasana, Trikonasana, Parsvottanasana, Left side lunge,
Forward facing lunge, Malasana, Forward facing lunge, Right side lunge,

Surya namaskar |

Surya namaskar includes 12 asanas which are- Pranamasana, Hasta uttanasana, Padahastasana, Ashwa sanchalanasana, Parvatasana, Ashtanga namaskara, Bhujangasana, Parvatasana, Ashwa sanchalanasana, Padahastasana, Hasta uttanasana, Pranamasana in this sequence. |

Young adults of all genders in age group 18 to 25
having hamstring tightness AKE angle more than 20 degree
difference of less than equal to 6.85±1.18 cm on modified modified Schobers test to measure lumbar flexion
and participants willing to participate and give consent for the same |

| Details |
Individuals with hypermobility.
Individuals with acute trauma injuries such as fractures, soft tissue injuries or
surgeries of upper limb, lower limb and spine.
Individuals with diagnosed spine pathologies- PIVD, listhesis, SI joint dysfunction,
Ankylosing spondylosis
Pregnant and post-partum females 6 months post delivery
Individuals practicing yoga or any graded exercise protocol in last 3 months before
recruitment.

Yogasanas especially hatha yoga such as surya namaskar have been known to have a significant effect on physical, mental and emotional well being. While chandranamaskar has rising popularity in practice recently there is still paucity of literature on its effects on the body and is still scientifically less explored. It is a sequence of 17 asanas with a calmer and slow flow as compared to suryanamaskar which is a sequence of 12 asanas. This study compared the effect of Chandra namaskar and surya namaskar on core endurance lumbar flexibility and hamstring flexibility. A sample size of 60 was collected after randomization and after taking participant consent. These were divided equally and randomly allocated to 2 groups of interventions chandra namaskar and suryanamaskar respectively. Each interventional group participants was given warm up respective treatment protocol and cooldown post protocol The Interventions of chandranamaskar and suryanamaskar were given in 5 repetitions with 5 seconds hold of each asana daily for 2 weeks to respective group participants. Pre and post protocol assessments were done at 0 weeks and 2 weeks of interventional period for core endurance by Mcgills core endurance tests MMST for Lumbar flexibility and AKE angle for Hamstring flexibility as outcome measures. Statistical analysis was done from the results. The Shapiro wilk test was done to see if the data passed normality. If it did then intragroup comparison was done by paired t test and intergroup comparison was done by unpaired t test . If the data did not follow normality then the intragroup comparison was done by Wilcoxson sign rank test and intergroup comparison was done by the Mann Whitney test. The Analysis of results concluded that Chandranamaskar showed significantly more effective in improving flexion endurance (p=0.006) suggesting greater enhancements of trunk flexor endurance. Conversely Suryanamaskar showed significantly greater improvements in Lumbar spine extension flexibility (p=0.008) and Hamstring flexibility (p=0.003). However the effect sizes were small indicating limited clinical superiority despite statistical significance. The results support the inclusion of both forms of intervention in preventive health, fitness, and physiotherapy programs aimed at improving musculoskeletal function and promoting spine health. |
