Brief Summary
|
Dental caries is a common chronic disease in children influenced by behavioral and dietary factors. Taste perception is believed to affect food preferences and caries risk. This cross-sectional observational study was conducted among 100 children aged 7-12 years in Belagavi, Karnataka to evaluate the correlation between taste perception ( sweet, salty, sour and bitter) and caries activity level using ICDAS II scoring. Participants were divided into two groups: caries free and caries active. Taste perception was tested using graded taste strips and suprathreshold sprays. The primary outcome was the correlation between taste perception and caries status. Findings suggested that altered taste sensitivity , especially for sweet and bitter, may serve as a behavioral indicator for caries risk assessment. |
