Brief Summary   NEED OF THE STUDY:-
  • Exercise, the training of the body to improve its functions and to enhance its fitness.
  • In recent times, the plank exercise training which is used as a part in rehabilitation and fitness has garnered significant attention due to its effectiveness in rapidly burning calories and strengthening the core muscles.
  • There are studies which have proved that in cardiovascular diseases isometric exercises are contraindicated as it involves static contraction of muscle which increases Blood Pressure and Heart Rate level and intra-abdominal pressure.
  • Plank itself is an isometric exercise and there are very limited studies that can show the effect of plank on cardiovascular parameters.
  • Therefore, the need arises to examine the immediate effect of plank exercise on Rate Pressure Product and Mean Arterial Pressure in young adults. If potential harmful effects arise, plank exercises should be conducted under close supervision especially in individuals with hypertension, diabetes, obesity, etc.
AIM:-
To examine the immediate effect of plank exercise on Rate Pressure Product and Mean Arterial Pressure in young adults.

OBJECTIVES:-
  • To assess the effect of plank exercise on Rate Pressure Product, Mean Arterial Pressure, Heart Rate.
  • To assess the effect of crunch exercise on Rate Pressure Product, Mean Arterial Pressure, Heart Rate.
  • To compare Rate Pressure Product of plank and crunches group.
METHODOLGY:-

METHOD OF COLLECTION OF DATA:
  • Study Design: - Experimental Study
  • Study Sample Size:- 32 (calculated by pilot study)
  • Sampling Design: Simple Random Sampling
  • Duration of Study: - 6 months
  • Study Population: - Young adults
  • Population age:- 18-24 years (according to WHO age group classification)
OUTCOME MEASURES:
  • PRIMARY OUTCOMES: -
  1. Rate Pressure Product
  2. Mean Arterial Pressure
  • SECONDARY OUTCOMES: -
  1. Heart Rate
INCLUSION CRITERIA:
  • Male and female adults with age group of 18-24years (according to WHO age group classification)
  • Normal BMI (18.5-22.9 kg/m²)
  • Young adults who can hold plank minimum for 30 seconds.
  • Participants who are willing to participate
EXCLUSION CRITERIA:
  • Known history of cardiovascular diseases
  • Pulmonary diseases
  • Systemic disorders
  • Orthopedic disorders
  • Neurological diseases
  • Psychiatric disorders
  • Obese individuals
MATERIALS USED:
  • Consent form
  • Performa
  • Sphygmomanometer
  • Stethoscope
  • Weighing machine
  • Stadiometer
  • Yoga mat
  • Stopwatch
  • Pen, pencil, paper
PROCEDURE:-
  • After ethical approval the subjects will be screened as per inclusion and exclusion criteria.
  • Written consent form will be signed by subjects.
  • The subjects will be divided into 2 groups: -
                    - Group A: plank exercise
                    - Group B: crunch exercise
  • Before and after exercise participants will be performing warm up and cool down
  • exercises respectively for 5 minutes each.
  • Outcome measures will be recorded before and after intervention
  • Data analysis will be done.
