Study Design: Cross-sectional observational study

Objective:Primary: To determine the prevalence of musculoskeletal (MSK) pain in individuals practicing calisthenics.

Secondary: To assess the association between sleep habits and MSK pain in this population.

Rationale:
Calisthenics, a form of bodyweight training, is gaining popularity for its functional benefits. However, advanced calisthenic movements carry a risk of musculoskeletal injuries. Simultaneously, sleep plays a critical role in recovery and injury prevention, yet its association with injury rates in this population is under-researched.

Novelty:
This is among the first Indian studies to explore injury prevalence and the influence of sleep habits specifically in calisthenics practitioners—a growing, yet scientifically underrepresented, fitness discipline.

Sample Size & Methodology

  • 189 participants aged 18–30, with at least 6 months of regular calisthenics practice.

  • Data will be collected using Google Forms, incorporating the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ) and the Athlete Sleep Screening Questionnaire (ASSQ).

Outcome Measures:

  • Nordic musculoskeletal questionnaire (NMQ)

  • Athlete sleep screening questionnaire (ASSQ)

Statistical Analysis:

  • Descriptive statistics

  • Chi-square test

  • Odds ratio (significance at p < 0.05)
